TOWN OF WINFIELD – PORTER TOWNSHIP – WINFIELD TOWNSHIP

-- CENSUS 2010 –

NEWSLETTER 2010

1.  WHY COUNT?

                and
      WHO COUNTS?

In 2010, the U.S. census will define who we are as a nation.  The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years.

Census information helps determine locations for school, roads, hospitals, child-care and senior citizen centers, and more.

Businesses use census data to locate supermarkets, shopping centers, new housing and other facilities.

Every Census Bureau worker takes an oath for life to protect the confidentiality of census responses.  Violation would result in a jail term of up to five years and/or fine of up to $250,000.

2.  WHEN IS THE
           COUNT?

The Chicago Regional Census Center has already completed updating the addresses and streets in the Town of Winfield, Porter Township and Winfield Township.

Census questionnaires are mailed or delivered to households in February through March 2010.  April 1, 2010 is Census Day.

From April through July 2010, Census takers will visit households that did not return a questionnaire by mail.
