    Who do I call to get a recycling bin?

    Allied Waste will provide you with a small tote automatically when you set up service initially.  However to receive a larger wheeled bin, 35 or 65 gallons, you may call the Town of Winfield at 662-2665 or stop in the Town Hall to request one.

     

    How much does the Town charge for the wheeled bins?

    They are FREE to residents due to a county grant received for recycling programs.

     

    How many bins can I have?

    Only one per residence.

     

    Can I exchange my 35 gallon for a 65 gallon bin if I find I need more space?

    Yes, at any time you can exchange your bin for a different size.

     

    What can I put in my recycling bin?

    ·         Plastic food and beverage containers

    ·         All aluminum, steel and tin beverage containers

    ·         Clear, green and brown glass

    ·         Newspapers

    ·         Food boxes (cereal, cracker boxes, etc – must be flattened)

    ·         Flyers

    ·         Copy paper

    ·         Magazines

    ·         Catalogs

    ·         Junk mail

    ·         Food containers should be rinsed and free of lids (labels okay)

    ·         No plastic bags

    ·         Cardboard boxes must be in a 2’ x 2’ pieces

     

    Household Hazardous Waste

    How do I dispose of my hazardous waste (paint, batteries, pesticides, etc)?

    Although neither the Town of Winfield nor Allied Waste pick-up most hazardous household waste there are programs in the area.  The Lake County Solid Waste Management District does have a program in place.  Please check out the following link for more information…  www.lcswmd.com/dispose_of.htm

    How do I recycle my broken electronics?

    Branch Chipping

    The Town of Winfield offers branch chipping services to our residents. 

     

     

    When is chipping done?

    Chipping is preformed every Tuesday, corresponding with garbage service pick up.  The program starts in the spring and ends the last week of September.

     

    What are the rules of the program?

    We ask all residents whom need branches chipped to comply with the following rules:

    ·        Branches must not be more than 18” in diameter

    ·        No tied bundles

    ·        No roots or dirt

    ·        No leaves

    ·        Must be at the end of the resident’s drive by the street in an inhabited home  (no vacant lots)

     

    Is there mulch available from the chipped branches?

    Yes, residents may pick up mulch from behind the Town Hall in the back parking lot.  Bring your own container and help yourself.

     

    Leaf Removal

    The Town of Winfield offer leaf removal to our residents in the fall.

     

    When is leaf vacuuming done?

    The street department removes leaves every Tuesday, corresponding with garbage service.  Leaf removal starts the beginning of October and end the week of Thanksgiving. 

     

    What are the rules of this program?

    The rules are as follows:

    ·        All leaves must be placed at the edge of the your lawn, not in the street

    ·        Leaves should not be bagged

    ·        No dirt, garbage or branches can be mixed in

    ·        Must be an inhabited home  (no vacant lots)
